Our Story
Born from the success of Peninsula Grill at Planters Inn, Benne’s—named for the local, nutty-sweet sesame wafer—offers the best of Charleston cuisine in a casual atmosphere.
“Benne” (pronounced “bennie”) is an African plant that was thought to bring good luck. The Gullah people called it the “goodwill” plant, and, even today, the wafers are said to bring good fortune to those who eat them. Benne’s restaurant is a nod to Charleston’s rich heritage.

Right across from the Historic Charleston City Market and adjacent to its parent restaurant, Benne’s is in a prime location.
